When I say “Can I really make money online” I mean the “I” to be both rhetorical, directed towards you if you’re looking for the answer to that question, and also directed towards me…can I, Tim Morrison, really succeed at this?
You see, I’ve only been attempting to make money blogging for a few years, and that question has been key, not only at the start of my journey, but continuing to resurface along my path, as I continue to study and wrestle with different methods and streams for successfully making online income. Some of the methods I’ve tried have brought in a bit of profit, three have brought in a lot, and many have fallen flat and produced nothing, nada, zip. Even though I’ve had some success, there’s been more than a few times along the way when I’ve thrown up my hands and said, “Man, this feels so difficult! Can I really make this work, or am I just not smart enough for this? Should I just give up ?”
So I have two motivations here with Online Marketing, and with this moneymakingblogsite.com blog. The first is to actually become super-successful at generating a substantial income from my online properties and marketing methods. Everybody’s idea of wealth and a rich, free lifestyle is different. Some of the “gurus” launching IM money-making programs and courses like to show you pictures of themselves leaning against their new Maserati, parked in front of their seaside mansion that they swear came from the buckets of cash they are raking in from their “exclusive traffic method” (“…this could be you, too!”) just six months after being fired from their office job, and with “no prior internet experience.” If you believe that, I’ve got some cool beachfront property in Montana for you, heh heh!
My vision of wealth and freedom is a little more grounded and conservative. I already have the richest life possible from a wonderful family and good friends. And I have a great car, and a home in a beautiful town. However, the bank owns that car & home, not me, and I pay a bundle every month to keep them. I also pay a bundle for phones, utilities, health insurance, and putting kids through college, before I see if there’s any left over for time off and vacations. I’m not “free” to stop working and still have those things. Like most everybody else, I suppose, .
So my picture of enough income and real financial freedom would be to bring in about $15K a month from my online income endeavors. $20K-$25K/mo. would be incredible! And, truthfully, even $10K/mo. would be pretty fine if I had only had to work 2-3 hours, 4 days a week to keep it flowing. Because we all want time freedom as well as financial freedom, and even if you’re pulling in $50K – $100K a month, if you have to work at your computer 10-12 hours a day to make it, you may be rich, but you’re not free.
But I’m also a guy who likes to help others succeed, too. Probably foolish, but I’m just built that way. So I want to use this ongoing Internet Marketing blog to chronicle my own journey to success, openly and publicly, so that others who wonder if they can really make money online can have a real-life case study to use as their touchpoint, and maybe learn from my failures and mistakes, so they do not have to repeat them.
Like many who cast an eye towards marketing online, I already had a “day job” which, in a good year, might net me $6K a month. Decent money, but not free-spending wealth. And I had to labor, hard, all week, to make that much. All the money from my income and my wife’s was pretty much gone after paying all the monthly bills, so we could never stash much for retirement.
Then I heard you could make “buckets of cash” from online marketing, and what’s more, you could set it up so that it was passive income, that kept pouring in with minimal or no extra work. I had fallen for some other “passive income schemes” before – I actually made a little money from a multi-level marketing business once – so you’d think I might know better.
But as I said in the previous post, we all know at least one person who really is making money online, enough to supplement or leave their day job, and I knew a few of these guys. I like to think I’m smart (don’t we all) so I figured, “Hell, if they can do this, I can figure it out too.
And thus began my journey into the land of Internet Marketing. In my next entry, I’ll tell you what I did in the beginning to get started, and you can compare it to your own first halting steps. Can we really make money online? If you are committed to working & studying very hard, like I have been, maybe we can. Follow me and we’ll find out together. Click right here to go to Part 2
